The importance of responsiveness in SEO is growing
Google is expected to introduce ,,Mobile-friendly” labels for pages in search results in the next few weeks. In practice, this means a significant increase in the value of responsive websites in terms of SEO. What can you do to maintain or achieve a high ranking despite the planned changes?
Preparing a version of the site suitable for mobile devices is a sensible step due to the increasing share of the mobile channel in Internet traffic. The role of responsiveness doesn’t end there, however, as it has an increasing impact on a site’s position in search results.
At googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com was published the announcement of the introduction of special ,“Mobile-friendly” labels for sites that meet the following criteria:
– do not contain solutions that are unreadable on mobile devices such as Flash,
– have text that does not require zooming to read,
– the size of the content is adapted to mobile displays, i.e. it does not require horizontal or vertical scrolling,
– do not place links too close together, making it impossible to intuitively click on the right one.
To test the extent to which your website meets Google’s mobility criteria, it is best to use the following Mobile Friendly Tester, integrate your site with Google Webmaster Tools (which flags errors in this area), and read the official Gogle guidelines available here: Webmasters Mobile Guide.
What does this mean in practice?
Most likely, positioning a website that does not take into account the needs of mobile users will become even more difficult, so this may be the optimal time to recommend and implement more responsive solutions.
