Google Search Generative Experience – what is it and what impact does it have on business?
On November 8, 2023, Search Generative Experience (SGE) saw its biggest international expansion, adding support for four new languages and introducing many new improvements. Tests were being performed this year on how Search Generative Artificial Intelligence can help people find what they are looking for faster and more efficiently. With Search Generative Experience (SGE), you can get AI-powered overviews that gather the most helpful and relevant information available for your query. Today, Search Generative Artificial Intelligence allows us to serve a wider range of information needs, including those that use multiple perspectives. With SGE, it presents more links and references to a wider range of sources on the results page, creating new opportunities for content discovery. As the experience has been steadily made, it has been expanded beyond the United States, with recent innovations in India and Japan. So far, in the three countries, most of the feedback has been positive, with people finding generative AI particularly useful for complex questions that don’t usually come to mind when they search. Now, in our largest global expansion, generative artificial intelligence has been introduced in the search engine to more than 120 new countries and territories, along with support for four new languages. In addition, several improvements have been made that will launch first in the United States, making SGE more interactive when searching – including easier questions, AI-based translation assistance and more definitions for topics such as coding.
Launch in more than 120 new countries and territories, and support four new languages
Starting today, Search Labs and SGE in English have been introduced to more than 120 new countries and territories around the world, including Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa. As part of this expansion, it is also possible to support four new languages for everyone using SGE: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Indonesian. If, for example, you speak Spanish in the United States, you can now use the search engine’s generative artificial intelligence in your preferred language.
Testing an easier question for supplementary information
Based on our tests of generative artificial intelligence in the search engine, it was learned that people appreciate the ability to ask follow-up questions because it is a more natural way to search for information or dig deeper into a topic. Now experiments are being conducted with a new way of asking follow-up questions directly from the search results page. When you continue exploring a topic, you can easily see your previous questions and search results, including ads in dedicated slots on the page. You may have searched for information on “how to run with a beagle” and now want to ask “how about hiking?”. Just press enter the question and let curiosity guide you. This update will be phased in over the coming weeks, first in English in the United States, and there will be further development of this feature.
Adding more context to translations
Sometimes translating from one language to another involves some difficulties. For example, in many languages, one word can have multiple meanings that standard translation tools will not necessarily detect. An example, for example, you want to translate the phrase “is there a tie?” from English to Spanish. It seems simple, but it’s possible that the word “tie” could refer to both a piece of clothing and a winnerless contest. Fortunately, the search engine’s generative artificial intelligence can help avoid this kind of ambiguity. Soon, if you ask it to translate a phrase in which certain words can have more than one possible meaning, you’ll see those terms underlined. Tap on any of these words, and you will be able to specify a specific meaning that reflects what you want to say. This option will soon be available in the United States for English to Spanish translations, and there are plans to expand its area of operation to more countries and languages in the near future.
Display definitions for coding and health information
In August, a new interactive way of displaying definitions of educational topics – such as science, economics and history – was added to reviews powered by artificial intelligence. This functionality is now being extended to other areas, including coding and health information. For relevant searches, you will see certain words highlighted, so you can hover over them to see their definition or browse related images. This update will be rolled out over the next month, first in English in the United States, and is expected to be expanded to more countries and languages soon. In addition, these innovations being introduced as part of the search engine’s generative artificial intelligence are groundbreaking and open up many new possibilities. With this tool, you can find accurate information, ask follow-up questions and translate texts with greater precision than ever before.
Summary
The extension of the search engine’s generative artificial intelligence to more than 120 new countries and territories and the introduction of support for four new languages is a huge step forward for Internet search. With these new features, you can expect more accurate and comprehensive search results and a better understanding of content in multiple languages.
