Drone delivery from Amazon – first tests
Amazon is starting a new way to deliver from its warehouses.
The package will be delivered by a drone. It will drop it on the lawn and all this in less than 60 minutes from the order. This is no longer a test. This will be a fully commercial service, available in Europe.
This will be launched in the UK and Italy next year.
For Prime users, delivery is “free.”
Unfortunately, there are downsides:
- parcels delivered by drones will have to weigh less than 2.26 kg and fit into a package the size of a shoebox. But let’s say the Bulgarians have already developed a drone with a lifting capacity of 350 kg and a range of 2,500 km.
- The drone from Amazon is already resistant to light rain, cold and heat. That is, with more wind and more rain, it probably won’t fly.
- In Poland, for now, drones are mainly used to deliver blood, medicine, and check power lines. By the time one gets all the permits it will be old.
All this is interesting, however, because until recently drone deliveries were supposed to be impossible due to restrictive aviation regulations. In addition, it was relatively expensive. All indications are that Amazon will popularize this service.
