Google algorithm update – December 2020
Yesterday, on its official Twitter account, Google announced that it will release the December algorithm update literally within days.
Updating just before the end of the year is now a tradition for Google. What do we know about the latest changes and why are Google’s algorithm updates important for all users of this search engine?
Google algorithm updates – a real nightmare for Seowca
Google changes its algorithm slightly practically every day, but once every few months it makes bigger changes that can cause a lot of confusion. All this is done to make sure that the search results match the query as closely as possible, and that users get the best possible content.
Why are the next major algorithm updates so important and insomnia-inducing for any Seer? Because they introduce a lot of unknowns that can demolish a site’s current SEO strategy.
and it was optimized as best as possible and displayed, as high as possible in the results. With each algorithm update, the effectiveness of these efforts comes into question. You may find that the positioned page suddenly gains visibility or, worse, drops sharply in the results. Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict what will happen to a site’s visibility after the next Google algorithm update.
Only after a few days or weeks, you can analyze which pages have lost or gained visibility, compare them and draw a common denominator and develop a new SEO strategy for the site.
My website is losing visibility after Google’s algorithm update – what should I do?
It is worth noting that a drop in site visibility does not mean that the site is bad or needs to be created from scratch.
As Google itself notes, you can think of an algorithm update as updating a list of the best movies in, say, 2017. After a few years, in 2020, you refresh the list and its content changes naturally – you add new movies that didn’t exist before, others you re-evaluate over time. You may also re-evaluate some films and realize that they deserve a higher place on the list than before.
Although it is impossible to predict which sites will lose (or gain) visibility, there are a couple of actions, they will always be received positively by Google.
How to prepare for Google’s algorithm changes?
First and foremost, focus on quality and original content. Google will always prefer sites with expert content that answers the issues users are searching for. Content should be written with integrity, in a grammatically correct manner and showing the author’s expertise.
Second, focus on building domain authority. This consists of many factors – including extensive content, or proper link building.
Another thing is to properly optimize the site technically. Factors such as site speed, indexing of relevant pages, site structure, or at least installing sitemap.xml and robots.txt files that are properly corrected is the foundation.
All these aspects are always checked in an SEO audit, which points out the weakest aspects of the site and provides up-to-date recommendations based on Google’s guidelines.
