New Google Ads rules and warnings
There is a growing problem on the Web with ads that promote products and services of questionable legality or legal products that are prohibited from being advertised. Apparently, this has also been felt in Google Ads, which has led to a new warning system.
When will the new Google Ads procedures be introduced?
Google plans to launch the new system on September 21, 2021. However, this is not the date of its full launch because the implementation period is expected to take 3 months so that the new warning system should be fully launched at the beginning of 2022. I suspect , however, that further work and changes to the system should be expected. Further expansion will probably include: – A database of banned products. – Abuse detection capabilities. – Automation of communication and appeals processes.
What do the new procedures involve?
Several categories of products and services will come under the magnifying glass: – Services enabling fraudulent conduct. – Firearms, firearms parts and related products. – Explosives. – Other types of weapons. – Tobacco. These categories seem pretty clear, but campaigners may have some concerns about potential exclusions in the campaign or on the site. Is it possible to advertise a survival store if the landing page in the links includes knives or black firearms? Will a store that brags on the site before New Year’s Eve that you can buy fireworks on the site get a warning? Will an insurance or financial intermediary that collects user data to pass it on be blocked? Will it be possible to advertise antique white weapons or their replicas? This will depend largely on how Google will check for violations.
How can Google Ads detect violations?
Google Ads has a number of tools with which it checks for possible violations. These include: – Checking the content of ads. – Analyzing the advertising account. – Examination of landing page content. – User complaints. – Customer feedback. – Legal reminders. – Rulings. Ad content and keywords will be automatically analyzed and blocked based on a list of banned phrases. Similarly, the content of pages may be examined. With complaints and customer feedback, time will be needed to be able to collect data to verify fraudulent activity. Legal warnings and rulings may require human factor involvement.
What will the communication from Google Ads look like?
The communication will begin with a reminder, but Google will start sending warnings linked to account blocks if the rules are not followed. The entire warning process has been divided into several stages: – First violation of the rules – sending a reminder.
– Second violation of Google Ads rules – the advertiser gets the first warning, and the account is blocked for 3 days.
– Third violation of Google Ads rules – the advertiser gets the second warning, and the account is blocked for 7 days.
– Fourth violation of Google Ads rules – the advertiser gets the third warning, and the account is blocked indefinitely. Of course, this procedure will not apply to a flagrant violation of Google Ads rules, at which the account will be blocked outright.
What to do after receiving a warning?
In order to resume advertising after your account has been blocked, you will have to remove all offending items and submit a form confirming the changes. It will also be possible to appeal the decision if you find that Google’s action is wrong.
